Squeezing the last juices out of my oldie AMD Athlon64 3800+ newcastle

Last night we tried to get all out from my good old 3800+ newcastle.. Luckily I have Corsair PC3200 twinx (2x1gb) ram that went easily to 442mhz so that wasn’t a bottleneck at all.. But as 3800+ newcastle is 130nm compared to his young overclocking maniac brother Venice that’s 90nm. We found a roof @ 2650 mhz (1.7v, 12x FSB 221mhz) so it’s like 250mhz increase from the stock, not so good tho!

Some tech specs

  • AMD Athlon64 3800+ newcastle
  • Zalman CNPS9500A LED (air cooling)
  • DFI Socket 939 LANPARTY UT NF4
  • Corsair DDRAM PC-3200 400MHz 2GB Twinx 2x1GB DIMM (3-3-3-8)

Summary

As it’s not the best overclocking CPU, every upgrade is an upgrade. When fan runs on low speed idle temp is ~35C full load ~49C. So I’m pretty happy with what I got out of this oldie.
